Victorian trainer Robert Britton is planning a return to Perth with star greyhound Fanta Bale later this year, following her outstanding win in the Group 1 Zoom Top at The Meadows on Saturday night.
Fanta Bale produced a commanding performance in the 725m Group 1 feature over the weekend, where she defeated fellow Britton-trained greyhound Rippin’ Sam and WA’s Quick Jagger.
Britton said the win ranked as one of the best of Fanta Bale’s eight Group 1 successes.
“All of them that you win are very good,” Britton told TABradio’s The Sports Daily.
“Being an invitation type race, you are racing against the best.
“It was a high class field, so to win it was really good.”
Britton said he planned to keep Fanta Bale racing until the Sandown Cup heats and final on May 17 and 24 respectively, meaning a trip to Perth for The Galaxy in mid-April was on the cards.
Last year, Fanta Bale was an unlucky third to Equanimity in her heat of Perth Cup, before taking out the Consolation a week later.
“The plan is to keep her racing until after the Sandown Cup,” Britton said.
“Perth is before that, so as long as she is fit and healthy and she retains her form, we will certainly be going to Perth.
“I was disappointed we didn’t make the final last year, but you can’t make every final.”
Should Fanta Bale travel to Perth, she could come up against Quick Jagger and Neil Monelli, a task Britton said wouldn’t be easy.
“Quick Jagger is a very high speed greyhound, I know his ability,” he said.
“The fact Neil Monelli beat him says both are going to be very hard to beat.”
