Amidst the controversy of last Saturday’s Kingston Town Classic at Ascot, a chestnut stallion by the name of Stratum Star claimed his first Group 1 victory.
A near on flawless ride by Bunbury boy Damian Lane enabled the Darren Weir trained galloper to tackle Perth front runner, Scales of Justice in a nail-biting finish.
Part owner of Stratum Star, Manfred Krauser spoke to TABradio’s The Sports Daily this morning about the Group 1 performance and he was elated by Lane’s box-seat ride and Weir’s training methods.
“I could hug and kiss that boy for the way he rode that horse!
“He really gave it the gun ride. You couldn’t ask for better,” he said about Lane.
“I would like to say a big thank you to Darren Weir and his staff for having done a fantastic job with this horse. He’s a master.
“As far as Darren goes, you can phone him any time and he’ll phone you back, you can approach him, he’s a super guy.”
Stratum Star will be looking at traveling to Queensland in mid-January for another shot at a $1 million race.
