Marydoll Out To Repeat Upset Win In WA Oaks

WA Oaks fancy, Marydoll, scored an upset win in last week’s heats, giving punters and Pinjarra trainer, Corey White, a pleasant but unexpected surprise.
With highly credentialed South Australian raider, Fabregal and local chaser, Times Square, commanding attention, Marydoll snuck under the radar.
But the daughter of Elite State and Flying Sienna defied her rating with aplomb, spearing out from box eight to lead and then withstand a spirited challenge.
Clocking the quickest heat in 30.33sec., Marydoll held on to defeat favourite, Fabregal by two lengths with second elect, Times Square finishing third.
“It was a good win and I think she went out at good odds because of the quality of the field,” White said on TABradio.
“I really didn’t know if she could produce that type of run because her trial form wasn’t quite up to the speed.
“But she obviously found a bit more and she impressed me.”
White, who has a small team of five dogs in work, concedes Marydoll will have to be at her best to defy the doubters after coming up with an awkward draw in box five.
Fabregal again poses a serious threat after the Adelaide speedster drew box three and Milly Keeping, who ran 30.34sec., in her heat win, to start from pole position.
“It’s a tricky draw, but I prefer her to be there than inside,” White said.
“Most of the early speed in this race will come from box one to four.
“The six, seven and eight are known for their strength rather than their speed.
“Marydoll will come out straight and I think she can get into a competitive position early.”
The Group 2 WA Oaks (520m), is race five of the programme at Cannington on Saturday.
The race was first run in 1976 and won by Venus Ice.
