Maturity The Key To It’s It Says Miller

Trainer Sharon Miller says maturity has been the key to her underrated six-year-old It’s It who continued his sparkling winter form at Belmont Park on Saturday.
After claiming the Listed Beaufine Stakes (1000m) in July, It’s It completed a feature race double with an all-the-way win in the Listed Idyllic Prince Stakes (1300m).
“When he came to me he was a real bush bred horse who was very, very immature,” Miller said on TABradio.
“He is only probably coming of age at the moment and looks like a horse now. He took a long time to do that.
“He just didn’t have the strength to carry him this far, but with maturity he is starting to put it all together.”
Miller said It’s It will press ahead and target the Ascot season, despite a disappointing showing earlier in the year.
The Knowledge gelding raced at city headquarters on four occasions and only managed to finish in the first three once.
“We were trying to settle him at his last Ascot campaign, but he was a bit of a rascal and just wanted to run and jump hard,” Miller said.
“He kept fighting us and it didn’t quite work to plan, but it has worked now because he does settle in front.
“That’s probably why his Ascot form didn’t look that good, but it’s worth giving him another go now that we have worked him out.”
It’s It was given a top run from apprentice Randy Tan, going to the front and controlling the race throughout.
Just Act Natural sat on It’s It’s outside, but couldn’t get past the son of Knowledge, who kicked over the final 100m.
The Malaysian-born apprentice won his second feature race since arriving in WA after he combined with It’s It in the Beaufine Stakes.
Miller was full of praise for the youngster’s ride.
“There was no pressure and that helped the horse a lot to get a couple of cheap sectionals.” Miller said.
“That allowed him to finish off very well and it was a good ride.
“He understands the horse really well.”
Miller said It’s It, who improved his record to nine wins and 13 placings from 34 starts, would run in the Farnley Stakes (1400m) on September 9.
