Fred Kersley’s potent team of three-year-olds have struck success again at Ascot this afternoon, with Mizlecki recording her second Listed race win in the Sheila Gwynne Classic (1400m), while stablemate Necklet finished second.
Mizlecki and Necklet were the only fillies in the race, but what they lacked in experience, they made up for in class.
Just a fortnight after winning her first blacktype race in the Raconteur Stakes (1500m), Mizlecki had no issue dropping back in distance, as she stamped her authority as one of the more exciting three-year-olds in WA.
Jockey Jerry Noske rode the filly perfectly throughout the $100,000 event, just behind the speed set by Akiko.
Necklet settled outside the speed, while the well fancied Royal Missile had no luck in running when posted three wide without cover.
Steven Parnham went for home on Necklet at the top of the straight, but Mizlecki was able to reel in the stablemate in the last 100m and go on to record a one-and-a-half length victory.
Kersley said he was pleased to get both fillies important blacktype success on their records.
“It is good,” he said.
“They’re both pretty new, they haven’t had many starts.
“They’re getting up in the handicaps…you take it as it comes.”
Swift Sis continued her outstanding preparation to finish third, following her second placing in the Majorie Charleson Classic behind Dainty Tess.
Meanwhile, Shaun O’Donnell has tasted his second success in the Western Australia Cup (3200m), with Dark Musket holding off a spirited challenge from Dudemanbro.
Dark Musket and Dudemanbro were clearly the strongest stayers in the race, finishing just under four lengths in front of Saxon Saxoff, while there was a further nine lengths back to Plays The Game in third.
Trainer Graeme Ballantyne said he would likely send the gelding to the east coast where he hoped Dark Musket would be able to find softer tracks.
