Top billing in Perth’s trainers’ premiership intensified with Grant and Alana Williams drawing level with Adam Durrant after the weekend of racing.
The Williams combination clawed their way back to reclaim a share of the lead after Stare Prosecutor and Tellem We’re Comin landed pivotal wins.
State Prosecutor gave the Williams stable their first Listed Belmont Guineas (1600m) success after he stormed home from the tail of the field.
Tellem We’re Comin, unplaced in the WA Derby (2400m), indicated a top campaign was in store with a top first-up sprinting display.
With 10 meetings of the 2017-18 season remaining, the Williams camp are back on track to defend last year’s trainer’s title.
But despite being in the hunt for a second premiership, Grant Williams believes weight of numbers will give Durrant a winning edge.
“We are running out of race horses,” Williams told Tabradio.
“We are only taking small team to the races, but we’re lucky they are winning.
“It’s making it look closer than what it is.
“In the month of July Adam will run over the top of us.
“He has more firepower than what we have.
“But it’s been a good season and good for racing what’s been going on in the last couple of weeks.”
Durrant, who took a year off last season, is searching to reclaim bragging rights as Perth’s leading horseman for the 7th time.
Durrant was Perth’s leading trainer in 2009-2010 and again in 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016.
Neville Parnham celebrated an interstate double when Malibu Style won at Flemington and War God took out the Bolton Sprint.
War God gave Parnham his 50th winner for the season, 36 in the city and 14 at provincial level.
