Peterson Claims First Heat Of Garrard’s Junior Driver Series

Young reinsman, Corey Peterson, stole an early march in the final heat of the Garrard’s Junior Driver series after combining with smart colt Handsandwheels for an easy win at Bunbury on Saturday.
Petersen relished the opportunity of driving last fortnight’s WA Derby (2536m) hero and gave favourite backers little cause for concern when he led and controlled the race from the start.
The Andrew De Campo-trained three-year-old bolted clear in the straight and defeated El Hombre, driven by Maddison Brown and Robbies Classic who finished third for Deni Roberts.
Roberts has closed the gap on the leader, Micheal Ferguson, moving to within three points, but the latter will favour his chances in heat two at Pinjarra on Monday.
The series frontrunner will sit behind Bryan Cousins’ in-form In Nyrobi, the Courage Under Fire gelding in line for a winning hat trick after success at Narrogin and Bunbury.
The Garrard’s Junior Driver series will continue at Northam next week, May 2, with the series decider to be staged at Pinjarra on May 8.
