Typhoon Tracy On Seannie’s Agenda

Reigning Supremacy Stakes winner Seannie will be out to secure her first blacktype success on the east coast this Friday night, when she lines up in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
The Sebring filly came from the rear of the field to record a dominant victory over 1200m first-up at Moonee Valley on February 9, after a frustrating first campaign in Melbourne and Sydney where she was unplaced in three starts.
Seannie holds nominations for the Group 1 Doncaster Mile and ATC Oaks during The Championships in Sydney, while her short term goal is the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 10.
Trent Busuttin, who took over the training duties prior to last spring along with training partner Natalie Young, said he was thrilled with how Seannie had come through the run last start, and said the race fitted in perfectly.
“We were in two minds about whether to give her another run before the 1400 at Flemington,” he said.
“She has come through her first-up run too well so we have decided to run her at The Valley and try and chase some blacktype.
“To be at her absolute best, she doesn’t want the surface rock hard…The Valley will suit her.”
Regan Bayliss retains the ride on Seannie and has once again drawn barrier seven for the Group 3 feature, where she takes on a strong field of three-year-old fillies, including The Everest’s fifth placegetter Tulip.
Busuttin said he was under no illusions how tough the task would be for Seannie, but her last start gave him the confidence he needed to line up on Friday night.
“They don’t run sectionals that she did last start without being a serious horse,” he said.
“You could argue she should have been unbeaten as a two-year-old in Perth.
“It is a hot field, Tulip is going to be hard to beat, along with John Hawkes’ filly Bella Martini.”
Busuttin said he hadn’t ruled out a shot at some of Sydney’s feature races in the autumn, and was still working out what the filly’s best trip would be.
The Typhoon Tracy Stakes jumps at 6.30pm on Friday.
