Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) has today announced that Western Australian racing and fashion identity Brittany Taylor is the newest ambassador for its Owners Only initiative.
Ms Taylor comes from a background entrenched in racing being the daughter of one of Perth’s leading trainers, Jim Taylor, as well as being a presenter for Sky Racing and regular contributor on TABradio’s The Sports Daily. In addition, Ms Taylor has also held ambassador roles for TABtouch and Perth Racing.
“I am thrilled to be on board as an Owners Only Ambassador. My main aim in this role is to get new owners into this great game, particularly the next generation,” said Ms Taylor.
“I really want to reinforce the mantra that ‘anyone can own a piece of the action’. One of the huge barriers to entry is that people think it is the sport of kings and only for the wealthy, which is simply not true!”
At a young age of 23, Ms Taylor has ownership in four thoroughbred racehorses as well as a greyhound, demonstrating that age is no barrier in owning a racing animal.
“I simply purchase small manageable shares. Whether you own 1% or 100%, the thrill of winning is still the same and there’s honestly nothing quite like it.”
Ms Taylor will be working hands on with the racing industry to look at new ways of bringing new owners into racing. Furthermore, she will act as a conduit between industry and potential owners on how to get involved in the sport.
“I think a lack of knowledge can be intimidating for people who perhaps are interested in ownership but don’t want to reach out to a trainer. I want to be an approachable representative who people feel comfortable asking questions no matter how silly they may seem – whether it be how to read a sale page, how long a horse will be in work for before they trial or just to introduce them to a particular trainer. I want to act as a source of support and guidance to potential and new owners,” said Ms Taylor.
Ms Taylor’s first-hand knowledge of the hard work that’s required from a training perspective is vital in providing valuable insight into the demands on trainers, to deliver a positive experience for owners regardless of their investment level.
“I won’t give too much away but there is a very exciting competition coming up, which will present some unique opportunities for entrants to visit stables and studs, gain exclusive insights from jockeys and trainers at track work, plus much more,” said Ms Taylor.
Owners Only is a RWWA initiative that recognises and rewards current Western Australian racehorse and greyhound owners.
“Owners Only is a dedicated program that aims to further enhance the ownership experience and we look forward to Ms Taylor sharing her knowledge and experience to prospective owners and assisting them with their ownership journey,” said RWWA General Manager Racing, Charlotte Mills.
