07 May 2008 Gavin Lang Heading West

Australia's most prolific winning reinsman Gavin Lang is heading to Western Australia for the opening of the 2008 Kalgoorlie Round at the Golden Mile Trotting Club on Tuesday September 9th.

As harness ambassador for the annual racing round Lang, in conjunction with Racing and Wagering Western Australia, will host a trainers, drivers and stablehands workshop.

The workshop will be followed by a memorabilia auction night.

In addition to being available for interviews, Lang’s ambassadorial role will see him trackside for the $30,000 XXXX Gold Kalgoorlie-Boulder Pacing Cup.

The meeting will have full nationwide SKY coverage.

The Golden Mile Trotting Club has previously brought "Mr Inter Dominion" Brian Hancock to the goldfields in a similar harness racing ambassadorial role.

Gavin Lang is Australia's leading reinsman with a career tally in excess of 4000 winners. His biggest win as a driver in Perth was with Manifold Bay in the 2001 Group One Swan Draught Golden Nugget where he beat the WA champion The Falcon Strike.

He showed he had lost none of his enthusiasm for driving Group winners when he steered the Safely Kept filly Kept For Pleasure in last week's Victorian Oaks.

Gavin Lang’s first trip to Perth was in 1976 when he represented Victoria in the inaugural Australian Young Drivers Championship.

The race was won by Peter Morris from New South Wales while it also saw the first Perth appearance of this State’s all-time leading reinsman Chris Lewis who represented his then home State of South Australia.
