Benefits of WestBred & EPONA

HR Westbred

WestBred

The WestBred bonus scheme was developed to support and reward the Breeders and Owners of Western Australian bred horses.

Under RWWA’s WestBred Incentive Scheme any foal born, notified, registered and branding in Western Australia is eligible for bonuses.

A WestBred eligible horse is a horse foaled, notified registered and branded in Western Australia. August 1 2014 saw the introduction of the Double WestBred incentive.

A double WestBred eligible horse is a horse foaled, notified, registered, branded and sired by a stallion registered and standing in Western Australia at the time of service.

For eligible horses a WestBred Owner and Breeder bonus is payable on any 2 or 3 year old race where the total advertised stake is less than $20,000 and where the horse is placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

The Breeder of a WestBred eligible horse foaled after 1st September 2011 will be paid an amount equal to 12.5% of any WestBred Owner Bonus paid on any 2yo or 3yo race as per schedule below. Such amount is over and above the WestBred Bonus and is therefore not subject to any trainer and/or driver percentages.

1. Bonuses are paid as follows:
(a) Where the total advertised stake is less than $15,000 (rounded to whole $)

Placing WestBred Owner Bonus WestBred 12.5% Breeder Bonus
1st $2,550 $319
2nd $675 $84
3rd $338 $42
4th $187 $23
TOTAL $3,750 $468

(b) Where the total advertised stake is between $15,000 and $19,999 (rounded to whole $)

2nd $1,125 $141
3rd $565 $71
4th $310 $39
TOTAL $6,250 $782

2. The standard trainer and driver percentages are payable on the Owner bonuses paid 1st-3rd places inclusive.

3. Should a Westbred Bonus for 1st place be earned in a 2yo or 3yo race by a Double WestBred eligible horse the Owner and Breeder bonus will be doubled. The Double WestBred Bonus will only apply to the winner and not place-getters.

4. The Breeder of a WestBred eligible horse foaled after 1st September 2008 and winning its first race after 1st September 2014 is entitled to a first win bonus of $2000.

5. The race-book Owner of a WestBred eligible horse foaled after 1st September 2008 and winning its first race after 1st September 2014 is entitled to a first win bonus of $2000.

EPONA Scheme

Racing and Wagering WA’s EPONA Scheme was introduced as a means of supporting race winning mares and to sustain the Western Australian Standardbred breeding industry.

RWWA will provide owners with a 10% breeding bonus in addition to the race winning stake money (capped at $5,000) for race winning fillies and mares. This bonus is put towards the payment of stallion services post racing career.

Specifically the EPONA Scheme is designed to:

  • Support WA filly and mare owners.
  • Increase the number of Standardbred foals being bred.
  • Encourage more mares to race in Western Australia.
  • Raise the value of locally owned mares post racing career.

The Conditions of the EPONA Scheme:

  • The EPONA breeding credit is 10% of the winning stake.
  • This breeding credit is in addition to the advertised winning stake.
  • The credits are held in a ‘trust’ until the owner claims for reimbursement against the scheme.
  • The 10% breeding credit will be paid on all wins in WA races.
