Rules governing TAB Sportsbet product

All betting on sporting events is governed by 'All In' betting rules, which means that returns are guaranteed once your bet has been placed but that refunds are not payable on non-starters. The only time refunds are payable under 'All In' rules is if the event itself does not take place, in which case all bets are refunded.

TAB Sportsbet's Fixed Odds racing product, offered on feature thoroughbred, harness and greyhound events, operates under 'All In' rules where bets are placed prior to the 'Final Field' being declared. However, Fixed Odds racing bets placed after 'Final Field' declaration are governed by rules of 'Refunds and Deductions', which means refunds are paid on non-starters and deductions may be taken from winning bets placed between declaration of 'Final Field' and scratching(s) occurring. To identify which TAB Sportsbet markets are under 'Final Field' conditions, TAB Sportsbet will include the term 'Final Field' in the event header.

TAB Sportsbet Accumulator

Accumulator is a modified form of Multi. While Multi bets can be played across sports and even across bet types, Accumulator is played within one round of a nominated sport. Eg. AFL Round 5.

Accumulators can include anywhere from 2 to 8 legs. You only need mark selections in the games you wish to play. AFL, NRL and nominated soccer fixtures are the sports TAB Sportsbet is currently offering Accumulators regularly.

For AFL and NRL Accumulators, you can choose 'Head to Head' or 'Line Betting'. For Soccer Accumulators, the only option is 'Result' betting. An Accumulator must stay within the nominated bet type.

Like Multi, the return for an Accumulator is calculated by multiplying the individual returns of each selection together. Accumulator betting will remain available while there are at least two AFL, NRL or soccer fixtures open for betting in the specified round.

Accumulator does not require any Sportsbet numbers and selections are based upon point of sale material and/or Sportsbet printouts available in TAB agencies.

TAB Sportsbet Multi

A TAB Sportsbet Multi enables you to include a variety of sports and betting options in one bet. Your return is calculated by multiplying the prices of each individual selection together to arrive at a Multi return for that combination.

A Multi selection is called a 'leg' and a Multi can contain anywhere from 2 to 10 legs.

Multi investments must either include only Sport selections (to a maximum of 10 legs) or only Racing selections (in a Double), not both Sport and Racing in the same Multi. Eg. West Coast to win the AFL Premiership into Delta Blues to win the Melbourne Cup would not place.

Multis cannot include both current selections with futures selections. Eg. West Coast 'Head to Head' in AFL Round 3 into Andrew McLeod to win the Brownlow Medal, would not place. Multis can be placed on futures events, such as Soccer World Cup Winner, AFL Brownlow Medal Winner and NRL Premiership Winner, provided all legs in the Multi are futures.

The vast majority of TAB Sportsbet betting options will be allowed in a Multi but occasionally you will not be able to include nominated 'singles' betting options within a Multi.

Multis cannot include legs that are not independent of each other. The concept of interdependency, or independent and non-independent events, is drawn from mathematical probability theory. The probability of two or more events happening cannot be accurately calculated by multiplication if the events are linked.

For example, consider the following 'singles' bet options on the same game - Half Time / Full Time Double : West Coast / West Coast and Head To Head : West Coast to Win.

These two options are non-independent, and will not be allowed in a Multi. Such bets cannot be allowed because Multi returns are calculated by multiplying the individual leg returns within the bet.

If two or more outcomes within the bet are non-independent, the bet unfairly achieves an additional return for little or no additional risk. The practice of not allowing interdependent events in a multiple leg bet is common for all sports bookmakers around the world.

As a general rule, including two or more Multi legs from a single game or event is rarely possible.

Any Thoroughbred, Harness or Greyhound event open for 'singles' betting can be included in a Multi (to a maximum of 2 legs or a Double) giving customers the flexibility to include cross code selections. Eg. Delta Blues to win the Melbourne Cup into Be Good Johnny to win the Miracle Mile would be allowed to place.

Where the same selection has been made for both legs of a Fixed Odds Racing Double (Eg. Delta Blues to win the Caulfield Cup and the Melbourne Cup), the return will be subject to a deduction based upon the price of the second leg.

This is because the chances of the second leg of the Double occurring is affected by the first leg being successful.

Based on the table below, if for example a Multi Racing Double contained Delta Blues to win the Caulfield Cup, returning $5.00, and Delta Blues to win the Melbourne Cup, returning $10, the adjusted return would be 55% of the all up total or $27.50.

Return Range for 2nd Leg of the Double Adjusted Return that Will Be Paid for 2nd Leg New Price of 2nd Leg
Min Max Example   Example
$1.01 $3.00 $2.50 80.00% $2.00
$3.01 $4.00 $3.50 70.00% $2.45
$4.01 $6.00 $5.00 65.00% $3.25
$6.01 $8.00 $7.00 60.00% $4.20
$8.01 $10 $9.00 55.00% $4.95
$10.01 $14 $12 50.00% $6.00
$14.01 $16 $15 45.00% $6.75
$16.01 $21 $18 40.00% $7.20
$21.01 $31 $26 35.00% $9.10
$31.01 $41 $41 30.00% $12.30
$41.01 $61 $51 25.00% $12.75
$61.01 $81 $71 20.00% $14.20
$81.01 $301 $151 15.00% $22.65
$301.01 Open $501 10.00% $50.10

Please note that where a draw or dead heat occurs, provided the 'draw' was not offered as a separate selection on an event within the multibet, returns are governed by standard dead heat rules. For example, in an AFL treble where one of the selected teams drew, the return is calculated by halving the full potential payouts, provided the other two legs were winners.
