Rocky Kwila has produced an amazing finish to win the XXXX Gold Roebourne Cup (2200m) for the second consecutive year. The seven-year-old stayer produced a strong and courageous run over the concluding stages to defeat Omdurman and Morocco Bound.
"I was pretty nervous and worried several times during the race," said jockey John Claite.
"But when I asked for a final effort he was able to produce and it was a courageous performance."
Trainer Peter Dellar is now likely to head towards the Port Hedland and Broome Cup's with Rocky Kwila.
John Claite commenced his afternoon in style with a race-to-race double aboard Gaelic Smile and Marubos. Gaelic Smile had only just arrived in the region after recent runs in Northam and York and was too good in the Horizon Power Maiden (1200m). Marubos continues to race well and looked impressive in defeating handy galloper Rasco in the Karratha Smash/North West Mechanical Handicap (1600m).
Lark Hill trainer Len Healy's last-minute decision to race Mutismo was rewarded in the Karratha Traders Handicap (1800m). After doing a power of work early the four-year-old kicked away in the straight and recorded an easy win.
Ultra-consistent galloper Silver Token was too good in the Carr Civil Sprint (1200m) and Vodka Lime was the most popular winner of the afternoon in the Tutt Bryant Handicap (1400m).
South Hedland trainer, Dean Cocivera, enjoyed the last winner of the season with Grasa Express scoring an easy win in the All Season's Handicap (1200m). The three-year-old has proved a good money earner for the stable with prize money in all ten of his starts and the $20,000 Pearl Classic in Broome will be his next target.
Award winners for the season include Rhiannon Fox as Jockey of The Year, Martin Hughes, Trainer of The Year and On Our Metal, Horse of The Year.
