07 November 2008 Stewards' Inquiry - Thoroughbreds

Trainer Mrs Chris Stelmach has advised the RWWA Stewards that DARK TARGET had undergone an endoscopic examination after finishing second in Race 5 the Rosemount R.S. Crawford Stakes over 1000m run at Ascot on Tuesday, 4 November 2008. The results of the examination were clear with no abnormalities being detected. Further, Mrs Stelmach advised that DARK TARGET had sustained some minor lacerations to both hind legs but the gelding had recovered well and was in fine fettle. For the sake of thoroughness it was now her intention to have blood tests taken from the gelding and would return to conventional shoes replacing the heart bar plates. Mrs Stelmach undertook to advise the Stewards of any developments.

Trainer Mr George Daly has advised the RWWA Stewards that VIZARD had been suffering from diarrhoea for the last two weeks and had constantly been scouring. The gelding had been under the care and treatment of the stable Veterinarian and had showed improvement this week. Mr Daly explained that the condition of VIZARD will be closely monitored and if the gelding continues to improve, consideration will be given to starting it in the SGIO-Winterbottom Stakes (Group II) at Ascot on Saturday, 29 November 2008. Mr Daly was advised that the RWWA Veterinarian will monitor the condition of VIZARD at trackwork.

RWWA Stewards yesterday interviewed, via telephone Trainer Joe Janiak regarding TAKEOVER TARGET. Mr Janiak advised that the gelding had been working well and had trialled in Victoria last week. TAKEOVER TARGET had suffered minor bruising to a heel and for this reason he had not proceeded with the planned start in the Patanac Farm VRC Classic (1200 metres) at Flemington on Saturday, 8 November 2008. TAKEOVER TARGET will now travel to Perth on Tuesday, 11 November 2008 and will participate in an exhibition gallop at Ascot on Saturday, 15 November 2008. Mr Janiak was advised that following the track gallop TAKEOVER TARGET will be required to undergo an examination by the RWWA Industry Veterinarian.
