Prohibited Substances
The presence of Prohibited Substances in racing animals is viewed seriously and punishments are generally severe.
Trainers are reminded, especially in the period leading up to a race, of their responsibility:
For the condition and care of their animals;
To take precautions in regard to the feeding and safeguarding of their animals; and
To ensure that people having contact with their animals are aware of the consequences should a ‘positive’ sample be returned.
Repeated Dosing
Trainers and veterinarians should be aware that multiple doses of certain "prohibited substances" and the use of combinations of "prohibited substances" may prolong the times of their excretion and subsequent detection in blood or urine samples.
Advice
For advice on the use of products that may contain Prohibited Substances trainers should consult their veterinarian or contact the RWWA Veterinary Department.
