Draw Sets Up Open Breeders Stakes
More riches are on offer for the mares at Gloucester Park this Friday night, with the running of the $50,000 WASBA Breeders Stakes (2130m).
The Group 2 event has bought together some of the most in form mares in the state, including last week’s Race For Roses (2503m) winner Star Of Diamonds.
The Barry Howlett-trained mare, who has won four of her eight starts this campaign, has drawn barrier four in the Breeders Stakes as she looks to make it back-to-back feature wins.
Star Of Diamonds is one of two in the race for Howlett, with Mares Classic and Race For Roses placegetter Somebeachparty to start from barrier 12.
Last year’s winner Arma Indie, trained by Mike Reed, is back to defend her Breeders Stakes crown and will have to overcome barrier six in doing so.
Reed’s other promising mare Tiffany Rose will also go into the feature event first-up and has drawn barrier one.
Nights Of Thunder (1730m) winner Queen Shenandoah will also make her return to racing in the event and has drawn barrier two.
Trainer Nathan Turvey will also have a two-pronged attack on the event with Savvy Bromac and Heavens Showgirl to start from barrier eight and 11 respectively.
The Breeders Stakes is one of two Group 2 events on the night with the Rock N Roll World At Allwood Stud APG 4YO Consolation Final (1730m) also on the card.
Mirragon won the heat on April 20 and will face the same six runners again in the $50,000 final this week.
The Debra Lewis-trained pacer had barrier one in the heat and led all the way but will face a different task this week from barrier three.

Poisedtopounce has drawn barrier one for trainers Greg and Skye Bond and looms as a likely leader.
The two-year-old’s get their chance in the Follow The Stars To Allwood Pace (2130m) with Champagne Classic (2130m) winner and runner-up Bushwacked and Whataretheodds drawn in barrier two and three respectively.
Meanwhile, WA Derby winner Mighty Ronaldo could line up again as soon as next week’s Pearl Classic Heat (2130m) at Gloucester Park.
Trainer Justin Prentice told TABradio’s One Out One Back the multiple Group 1 winner may not be headed to the paddock yet.
“We’ve got a few races picked out for him,” he said.
“He still has the Pearl and the APG both $50,000 races in a couple of weeks.
“We’ve got the Westbred as well.
“They’re the three we’ve got highlighted for him.”
