2021 Australian Pacing Gold Standardbred Yearling Sale comes to Perth
The nation leading Australian Pacing Gold (APG) Standardbred Yearling Sale is set to be held in Perth on Sunday, 28 February.
The sale will see 102 lots on offer, with 62 colts and 40 fillies, all eligible to compete in the WA Sales Classics and APG Gold Bullion Series.
APG Sales Manager Kathleen Harris said they have noticed that the quality of the yearlings on offer at APG’s Perth Sales is continually on the rise.
“It is a real credit to our breeders who are investing heavily back into the industry, and their investment is paying dividends, with APG sales graduates having won 12 of the 14 Group One two-year old races in Western Australia over the last two seasons, headed by the likes of Double Expresso, Major Martini, Manning, Black Jack Baby, Give Us a Wave, Lady Jadore, Mighty Ronaldo and Talks Up A Storm,” Kathleen said.
“This season’s APG Perth draft looks particularly strong and is statistically our strongest Perth catalogue to date, collectively, the dams of our 2021 Perth yearlings are both the best racetrack performers and the best producers in the sales history, having already produced horses of the calibre of Handsandwheels, Shockwave, Bettor Party, Double Expresso, Our Zak Whitby and Patrickthepiranha.”
Kathleen added that in addition to the outstanding maternal strength of year’s Perth catalogue, sire power is also up on last year, further underpinning the quality on offer.
“The atmosphere at the sales has been electric in recent years thanks to the great support we’ve received from the industry. Regardless of whether or not you are thinking of buying, we’d love to see all WA harness participants at this year’s sale.”
Last year the Perth sale proved successful with the average sale price rising to over $20,000 for the first time, several horses making over $50,000, and two lots going for $70,000.
All lots that were foaled, notified registered and branded in Western Australia, will also be eligible for Racing and Wagering Western Australia’s (RWWA) WestBred scheme. In addition, horses foaled, notified, registered, branded and sired by a stallion registered and standing in Western Australia at the time of service, will qualify for the Double WestBred incentive.
The WestBred bonus scheme provides bonuses to owners and breeders on top of advertised prizemoney for any two or three-year-old race where the total advertised stake is less than $20,000 and where the horse is placed between first and fourth.
RWWA General Manager Racing Charlotte Mills said the WestBred bonus scheme was developed to support and reward the breeders and owners of Western Australian bred horses.
“RWWA’s WestBred bonus scheme is set to distribute more than $1.8 million to owners and breeders during the current season on top of standard prizemoney levels,” said Charlotte.
“These additional opportunities for qualified standardbreds ensures that breeding, owning, and racing a WestBred horse in Western Australia provides the best value-for-money.”
The APG Standardbred Yearling Sale will be held at the Magic Millions sales complex in the Swan Valley. Yearling Inspections are welcome on the Saturday 27 February from 10am to 4pm.
