2021 Ladies of Pacing Winners Announced
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) announced the winners of the 2021 Ladies of Pacing Awards this afternoon at an event celebrating the many women who participate and contribute to the harness racing industry.
The awards highlighted women’s achievements in the categories of Leadership, Dedication to Harness Racing, Welfare and Administration.
Approximately 140 attendees saw Skye Bond win the Ladies of Pacing Leadership Award.
A trainer with 187 winners in her own name and 1670 winners in joint partnership with her husband Greg. Skye has excelled as much in her career with multiple Group winners and training premierships, as behind the scenes caring for her staff and horses and promoting harness racing in a positive light.
With a family background in pacing through grandparents Dick and Dot Moore, Skye developed her passion for horses at a young age, regularly taking part in dressage and eventing. She combines her equestrian experience and knowledge in the training and presentation of her horses.
Skye’s dedication to the WA harness racing industry is reflected through her triumphs on the track, her commitment to the care of her horses and the longevity of her involvement in harness racing.
Respected by her peers and staff, Skye is a deserving winner of the Leadership Award.
Denise Trobe was the recipient of the Dedication to Harness Racing Award.
Over a period extending more than 40 years, Denise has bred and raced standardbred horses and has been a tireless supporter of the industry.
Holding many roles within the industry, including a stint as Vice President of the Breeders Owners Trainers and Reinsperson Association (BOTRA), Denise has contributed in a variety of ways to the advancement of harness racing.
As a breeder and an owner, Denise has mentored junior drivers and excelled in writing articles and newsletters to promote the sport, as well as the individuals and groups participating in the industry.
Denise is a strong supporter of country racing and continues to be a role model in the promotion of harness racing throughout the State.
Shari Lindo was recognised for her outstanding commitment to the care of retired Standardbreds, winning the Ladies of Pacing Welfare Award.
Shari is part of the dedicated retraining team at Lokenzo Park and has a long history in both codes, having been a junior reinsperson and apprentice jockey.
Shari brings a huge amount of knowledge with her in the retraining process and has shown her passion for rehoming retired standardbred racehorses and supporting their next pursuits.
Jenna Saunders, Secretary of the Central Wheatbelt Harness Racing Club, was the worthy and popular winner of the Ladies of Pacing Administration Award.
When her father Dave gained his trainers license at the time Jenna was born he never thought he would be still involved in the industry thirty plus years later due to the love and interest for the sport held by his daughter.
Harness racing became a passion for Jenna at a very early age and at the age of 16, Jenna came to Perth from Tammin for work experience in the Racing Office of the WA Trotting Association.
As an active member of the Central Wheatbelt Harness Racing Club, Jenna became Secretary in 2006 and has held this position since and received Life Membership from the club in 2020.
The Shire of Kellerberrin awarded Jenna the 2020 Citizen of the Year Award and the 2020 Community Event of the Year Award was awarded to the “Family Fun Fair”, which was hosted by the Central Wheatbelt Harness Racing Club and the Kellerberrin and Districts Agricultural Society.
Jenna is passionate about country harness racing and its positive impact on the community.
RWWA General Manager Racing Charlotte Mills said there had been stand out nominations across all four categories.
“Today we celebrate the outstanding contribution of the women in the WA harness racing industry,” Charlotte said.
“Their achievements reflect the hard work, dedication and their passion for the harness racing industry. These women are an incredible endorsement for the industry and we are delighted to come together to recognise them for their contribution.”
