A powerful finish to the WA thoroughbred racing season
Pierro gelding Regal Power has been crowned 2021/22 WA Racehorse of the Year at the WA Thoroughbred Racing Awards this evening.
The six-year-old doubled down on his noble status, also taking the award for racehorses aged four years and older in a terrific season highlighted by a thrilling Group 1 Kingston Town Classic win.
With a clean sweep of Perth’s three Group 1 races, Peters Investments took out top breeder with another remarkable season.
Since stepping into thoroughbred racing in 1973, WA Racing Hall of Fame inductee Bob Peters has become Western Australia’s most respected owner-breeder, continuing to stamp his renowned position worldwide over the past season.
Simon Miller’s stable star Amelia’s Jewel won the two-year-old racehorse title, while the Dan Morton-trained Alaskan God was awarded the top honour for three-year-olds.
Champion trainer Adam Durrant capped off a tremendous season, again winning the title of Leading Metropolitan and Provincial Trainer.
Durrant produced feature wins including the Bunbury Cup and the Ascot 1000 Guineas, and fantastic performances from stable stars True Attraction and Beret, both performing very well throughout the season.
Champion rider Chris Parnham celebrated a remarkable season by taking home the award for Leading Metropolitan Jockey, with his outstanding form including wins in the WATC Derby and the Summer Scorcher.
Clint Johnston-Porter was awarded the Leading Provincial Jockey for an outstanding season on the provincial circuit, which included 97 wins.
Young gun Laqdar Ramoly won Leading Metropolitan Apprentice with 39 wins including an impressive ride on Nerodio to take out the Beaufine Stakes in July.

Champion stallion Blackfriars was awarded Leading Sire for the twelfth consecutive time, while Broadway Belle and Stormy Nova were recognised as Leading Broodmares.
