The new season at Albany kicks off this Friday night and the club has nine races on offer for its opening night. The first is set to get underway at 7.10, with the three-year-old maidens opening the meeting. The last on the card is a late one, with a 10.50pm start time, but with eight full size fields and one seven horse field, the meeting is sure to pack plenty for punters and patrons.
“We’re very happy with the nominations and trainers and drivers willing to travel.” AHRC President Ken Davies said.
The Albany Harness Racing Club will be host of ten meetings this season, with the club confirming that the AHRC Horse of the Year will be sponsored by Spurrs Stud.

This Friday’s meeting is without a feature race, however next week’s Christmas Eve meeting, which will be held during the day with a predicted 12pm start, will feature the $10,250 Christmas Cup as well the first prelude for the Harry Capararo Memorial.
“We’ve got Harry Capararo Prelude one on the 24th of December and the second prelude is the 8th of January, with the final on the 15th of January”
The Harry Capararo Memorial Final has stakes of $10,250 on offer and is restricted to horses that have contested the preludes held over the two meetings prior, with winners of the prelude granted automatic acceptance into the feature.
The club has held three weeks of trials leading up to the opening day and by all reports the track is in great order and as long as they don’t receive a lot of rain, should stay that way.
Last years leading trainer Hayden Reeves is hoping for a big night this Friday with 18 runners engaged, spread over eight races.
The Club will feature the Albany Cup and Denmark Cup later in the season – dates are not yet available.
