The battle for Geraldton’s Leading Apprentice rider will go to the wire with Randy Tan and Clint Johnston-Porter fighting it out for honours
With one meeting remaining before the 2015-16 season draws to a close on Sunday, April 24, Tan and Johnston-Porter are tied for the lead.
Tan took full advantage of Johnston-Porters absence from Sunday’s Geraldton Cup meeting when he guided, Sharreada, to victory in the last.
The young talent was denied a double when, Chavinca, failed by a long neck to hold out the finishing run of veteran, Full Steam Ahead.
Robert Markou failed to land a winner but still maintains an unassailable lead over the injured Shaun Meeres in the jockey’s award.
Gordon Spowart kept his faint hopes alive in the trainer’s premiership when Trade Fair mare Sharreada won her second race.
Standup’n’deliver, who ran second to Pseudo Sky in the opening race, gave Sarah Childs breathing space at the top of the leader board.
McScar, Vitalism and Mystery Glow remain in the mix for Horse of the Year.
