Big Day Out For Inwood at Kellerberrin
It was a good day out for Lang Inwood at Kellerberrin on Sunday, with the Northam based trainer claiming a double on the card, including a quinella in the third on the card with his runners Lets Rock Tonight and Mary Joe, who were recent purchases for the stable.
Inwood had five runners engaged at the meeting, walking away with two winners, two second place getters and a fourth placing, making it a great day at the office for the 42-year-old.
Lets Rock Tonight and Mary Joe got the quinella in race three, with Lets Rock Tonight coming out on top by a head after settling behind the leader throughout over the 1730m sprint trip, making full use of the sprint lane to get the money for favourite punters in a winning mile rate of 2:01:3 for driver Emily Suvaljko.
“He’s (Lets Rock Tonight) a nice honest horse on a low mark, for where I race. He came in top shape from Kevin Charles. I bought him in partnership with Peter Capararo, after a good association with his father Harry,”
“I paid a bit of them and cleaned out a few of the slower ones, so makes going to the races a bit more profitable.”
It was another favourites job in race four, with Tux And Tails going forward at release point, finding himself in the breeze over the 2130m journey, eventually pulling away to win by 6m in 2:03:4. The win gave Suvaljko a driving race-to-race double, and her third winner for the day in the cart.
“Tux is a very nice type, probably end up a city horse. Loads of improvement in him, he’s still learning and not 100% fit.” Inwood said.
Love To Fly opened the meeting with a win in the 3YO maiden for Hayden Reeves and Emily Suvaljko, giving prominent breeder and owner Allwood Stud Farm another win from their locally stood stallion Fly Like An Eagle. After leading all the way over the 2130m, the $1.75 favourite went on to win by 6m in 2:03:8.
After knocking on the door at her last start, Tiger Toast went one better on Sunday, getting the win in race two for Claire Cummins and Kyle Symington. After leading all the way, she was able to stave off her rivals, claiming the win by 3m in 2:02:5 over the 1730m sprint.
“After I had to retire the trotter, I advertised looking for a horse to lease as I was only working one and thought if I’m working one, I might as well be working two, and Bernie James and his partner made contact with me,”
“She’d had a fair while off racing but had a prep in between so thought she was worth a go being on a low mark.”
Peter Anderson and Trent Wheeler joined forces in race five, with Simply Shaz NZ appreciating the drop in grade and the short freshen up from her last start. After settling in the one-one position over the 2130m, Wheeler made his run with just over 200m to go, to pull away with a margin of 9.9m in 2:02:4. Sunday’s win brought up the mares seventh career victory in just 22 starts.
Give Us A Wave made it three in a row at the Central Wheatbelt for Team Bond and Deni Roberts, with the $1.12 favourite toughing out in the breeze over the 2130m trip, skipping away to win by 13.5m in 2:00:8.
With a change of trainer since his last start just two weeks earlier, Lewis William made it two in a row, giving Sonia Zucchiatti the win in race seven and a driving double for Deni Roberts on the card. After settling one-one, the four-year-old was able to run down the leader and short-priced favourite, claiming the win by 1.9m in 2:05:6 over the 2130m.
