Black Jack Baby didn’t disappoint last night at Gloucester Park, with the impressive three-year-old going on to record her 14th career win, taking her total stakes to just over $211,000, not including the bonuses the double-westbred filly has accumulated for her owner/trainer, Shane Quadrio.
Starting from barrier eight in the 3YO fillies pace, she crossed with ease and it was all over, claiming the ninth on the card in a slick 1:55:9, over the 1730m sprint journey by 2.4m for in-form reinsman Chris Voak.
“We thought she would have the gate speed to cross them and with the short distance we thought she should do very well,”
“she’s definitely surprised me with how good she is going and how much she has improved every time I’ve brought her back in.” Quadrio said.
Black jack Baby’s dam, What A Card NZ is booked to go back in foal this season to Follow The Stars who is currently standing in NSW for Allwood Stud.
Whilst the future foal won’t be eligible for Double West bred bonuses like big sister Black Jack Baby, they will still be eligible for the West Bred bonuses on offer.
Quadrio, whose team is based in Byford, currently has seven in work, with three racing this Monday at Pinjarra.
In race three he has Silver Star Lombo starting second up for the stable. From barrier two, they expect to hold up, hoping to go one better on last start and break their maiden status.
“She (Silver Star Lombo) broke her tongue tie last start and got her tongue over the bit, she faded a bit in the end, and she did over race, but she should go well on Monday.” He said.
With two runners engaged in the last, the Harvie Standing Start Pace over the 2631m, Quadrio does expect Cheddar Is Better and Our Virtuoso to continue their good form.
“They should be good place chances, they both have winning chances, but I would say they’re a good each way chance.” He said.
Quadrio mentioned that he will be trying to lead with one of his runners, with both Cheddar Is Better (barrier 1) and Our Virtuoso (Barrier 4) starting off the front line.
The likely race favourite, The Code Breaker will be starting off the 20m line and after stepping well last start at Wagin off the 70m handicap and winning, should be hard to beat.
“He’s going really well, looks like a race where a few will want to lead so would imagine that he will be driven sit sprint again. Looks hard to beat.” Said Brennan.
