Brett Pope Blown Away By Ascot Win
Pinjarra trainer Brett Pope could have an exciting prospect on his hands after Blow Me Out returned to racing in style with a resounding victory at Belmont on Wednesday.
The three-year-old, ridden by Jade McNaught, scored a runaway win in the Everest Accounting Nedlands Maiden (1200m), stamping herself as a horse of the future.
Pope went into the Ascot meeting hopeful and the daughter of Alfred Nobel proved him right, turning the race into a one-act affair and winning by 3 1/4 lengths.
“I was probably more hopeful than anything,” Pope said.
“We’ve got a big opinion of her.
“She’s shown a lot a home, but we wanted her to show it out on the track.
“We don’t have much at home that can keep up with her.”
Pope said Blow Me Out had matured mentally rather than physically after her maiden campaign at Belmont in July.
She improved further after two solid efforts behind promising filly Snickerdoodledandy, running third and fifth respectively.
Pope believed Blow Me Out had benefited from a short break.
“Probably mentally more than physically,” Pope said.
“She’s stronger now, but tougher mentally.
“She had to move a few horses out the way today (Wednesday) to get a run and she put them away nicely.”
Pope said he wanted to see how Blow Me Out went first-up before revealing Ascot carnival plans, but the WA Guineas (1600m) on November 21 is an option.
“It will be nice if we can get there, but we will see,” Pope said.
Strongly echoing the sentiments of Pope, McNaught says Blow Me Out has plenty of upside to her.
Today (Wednesday), despite being near last on straightening she had few concerns.
Once she hooked to the outside she was confident Blow Me Out would unleash a superior finishing burst.
“I was just waiting to get some running,” McNaught said.
“She pretty much did everything right except for running in a little bit, but that’s just greenness.
“She is a very nice horse.”
