Bull A Day-to-Day Proposition
Champion trainer Gary Hall Snr admits Chicago Bull’s career could finish any day now, as he prepares to make another comeback.
The multiple Fremantle Cup winner was set to make a return in October but had to be scratched just two days out from the race.
Hall Snr said the gelding had to be treated at the time for what he described as a “viral infection” and was given a further six weeks to get ready for his return.
The rising nine-year-old hasn’t raced since he was unplaced in the Winter Cup in June, which ended a campaign of five starts without a win.
Hall Snr said he felt his star pacer was ready to go again.
“Providing he does well between now and Friday, he will go around,” he said.
“He’s going well at home, and I don’t have any concerns about starting him.
“Whatever he does he will improve on.
“He is a day-to-day proposition because of all the problems he’s had in the past.
“I’m hoping he can get back to his best.”
Chicago Bull could clash with 2019 WA Pacing Cup winner Rocknroll Lincoln in the $25,000 event, with Justin Prentice to decide tomorrow on whether to run his pacer for the first time in almost two years.
Magnificent Storm, who was second to Chicago Bull’s stablemate Balcatherine on Friday night, has also been nominated for the event, as has Golden Nugget winner Minstrel.
Hall Snr said Alta Intrigue and Wildwest would also line up in the Free-For-All.
“Alta Intrigue would probably find it tough to beat them,” he said.
“Wildwest had no luck last Friday and he went to the line bolting with the ear plugs still in.”
Balcatherine, who has her sights set on a Pacing Cup start, is set to line up in the Christmas Belles on Christmas Eve.
