Busselton Harness Racing Club and Community TAB to fundraise for Lamp
Busselton Harness Racing Club and Community TAB have joined forces to raise funds for Lamp Incorporated at the annual Busselton Cup on Friday 22 January.
Lamp is a local Busselton based organisation that supports people with mental illness as well as their families and carers to ensure an inclusive lifestyle and recovery processes.
Busselton Harness Racing Club Secretary/Treasurer Pat Abbott said the program is a wonderful way to assist local community groups.
“We have been involved in the Community TAB program for several years and our beneficiaries are extremely grateful,” Ms Abbott said.
“We strongly support Lamp any way we can, as they do such great work in our local area assisting various types of disadvantaged persons and they are also now an official National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider.”
“Funds raised will support the Lamp Youth Bus, which enables them to travel to further away towns in the district where there is none or very little assistance for people in need without them having to travel a fair way.”
The Lamp Youth Bus will be on-course on Busselton Cup night and volunteers will be collecting donations around the ground to raise funds.
Community TAB will be matching funds raised on the day up to $2,000.
RWWA Chair Jeff Ovens said the positive effects of the Community TAB program have been extensive for regional WA, with 48 of WA’s race clubs based in regional communities.
“RWWA recognises that race clubs across WA play an important role in their community, contributing both economically and socially, with partnerships like these an example of the strong connection race clubs have within the communities in which they operate,” Mr Ovens said.
“Community TAB is proud to play our part in giving back to the community, and our donation to Lamp is just one of more than 50 community organisations that will be supported as part of the program.”
The Community TAB dollar matching program has been in effect from early 2015 and has since raised over $600,000 for not-for-profit organisations around WA through partnerships with local race clubs.
