Come Play With Me On The Cards To Join Waller Stable
Top trainer Adam Durrant is considering an east coast campaign for Saturday’s upset Swan River Vase (2200m) winner, Come Play With Me.
Durrant said he is exploring his options, but a stint with Chris Waller in Sydney looms as a distinct possibility for the four-year-old.
“At this moment because he is going so well I’m leaning towards maybe Sydney,” Durrant told Tabradio.
“I’ve had a chat with Julian from Chris Waller’s stable and they are mapping out a couple of programs that will suit him for the next two months.
“We aren’t going to be too ambitious with him, not the Group ones, the lower tier staying races.
“You can always go up if it turns out you are good enough.
“As we have seen recently plenty of the Perth stayers have gone over there and run really well.
“I certainly don’t have time to go over there with our carnival pending and the horses I have in work.
“I’m not interested to go over there to be honest.
“It’s going to be left up to them whether the program is good and what is going to be available.
“We will give him a week in the paddock, let the dust settle and make a decision late next week.”
Come Play With Me extended his winning sequence to four in the Swan River Vase and proved too strong for raging favourite Gatting.
Giving apprentice Brodie Kirby the middle leg of a treble, the Blackfriars gelding posted a comfortable 2 ½ length win.
Durrant said defeating a horse of Gatting’s profile, was career-defining for Come Play With Me.
“It was probably one of his best wins from my point of view,” Durrant said.
“To beat a horse with Gatting’s potential and on his merits.
“I’ve always rated him a pretty good stayer.
“He has always been better than average.
“He has good stamina and the attributes of a good stayer.
“He is trouble-free and a kind bugger around the stables.
“He wants to please you.”
