Community TAB Major Partner Lifeline Campaign
2 November, 2015
Community TAB has signed on as the major partner of Lifeline WA’s ‘Lights for Lifeline’ campaign, for the second year in a row.
Racing and Wagering WA Chairman Jeff Ovens said Community TAB was committed to making a difference within the local community.
Mr Ovens said the first year of the partnership with Lifeline had been a wonderful affiliation and is thrilled for it to continue for another year.
“Lifeline WA is an outstanding not-for-profit organisation that provides a vital service to the WA community and one which we are very proud to support,” Mr Ovens said.
“Community TAB is proud to commit a further $60,000 to the Lights for Lifeline campaign to go towards training much needed new Telephone Crisis Support Volunteers.
“Mental health is one of the most pressing issues facing our community and Community TAB see this ongoing partnership as a way of making a positive difference.
“As well as investing more than $145million to support the racing and sport industries we hope the Community TAB’s investment in initiatives like this can make a real difference.”
Lifeline WA CEO Fiona Kalaf welcomed the second year of partnership with Community TAB with the ‘Lights for Lifeline’ campaign which runs from now until the end of December.
“For many people, the festive season is a time of joy, giving and sharing with families,” Ms Kalaf said.
“But for others, it can be a time of loneliness, desperation and isolation.
“Sadly, Christmas Day alone sees Lifeline WA’s volunteers answer more calls than any other day of the year.
“Therefore it is important that we have enough fully accredited volunteers who can respond to these calls and help people in their hour of need, not just at Christmas, but all year round.”
Ms Kalaf said it cost $3000 to educate a volunteer and the Community TAB’s generosity enabled Lifeline WA to continue its lifesaving work.
“Lifeline WA is extremely grateful for the generosity of Community Tab which does so much to support and develop communities within Western Australia,” she said.
The campaign runs until December 31. For more information visit www.lights.org.au.
