19 February, 2016
Community TAB is the major sponsor of the Parks & Leisure Australia WA (PLA WA) Awards of Excellence, which will be held on Thursday 16 June 2016.
The annual awards recognise outstanding initiatives and innovative effort of people who create opportunities for the good use of leisure time for a number of social, environmental and economic benefits to the community.
Award categories include Emerging Leader of the Year, Research Project, Leisure Facilities, Major Playspace and Use of Technology.
Racing and Wagering WA and Community TAB Chairman Jeff Ovens said the TAB has been an ongoing supporter of PLA WA for many years.
“The TAB has been providing turnover to the Department of Sport and Recreation to support bodies such as Parks & Leisure Australia WA for over ten years,” Mr Ovens said.
“We are thrilled to be able to further this partnership by coming on as the major sponsor for the Awards of Excellence, as well as Category Sponsor for the Use of Technology Award.
“Community TAB recognises the imperative role associations such as PLA WA play in ensuring a healthy lifestyle for Western Australians both physically and mentally, and is proud to be affiliated with such an important organisation.”
PLA WA President Rachel Thorpe said as a not for profit, volunteer based organisation PLA WA is incredibly excited to welcome Community TAB as the major sponsor of the 2016 Parks and Leisure Australia WA Awards of Excellence.
“Community TAB’s sponsorship will help us recognise Western Australia’s most outstanding play space, park, leisure facility, community programme and event as well as identifying exceptional planning, research and individuals,” Mrs Thorpe said.
“Whether it is public open space that overcomes water issues while delivering an aesthetically beautiful, highly accessible, innovative park design that increases the activation or an event that captures the imagination and connects the community, the Awards seek to showcase the best of the best in the parks and leisure industry.
“Parks and Leisure Australia WA represents ‘the people behind the places’ which promote and enhance leisure opportunities to the community. These include those that plan, construct, manage and maintain parks, leisure facilities, public open space, streetscapes, events, sports and leisure tourism to create thriving, healthier communities.”
Submissions are now open for the Awards of Excellence via the PLA WA website, and will close on 14 March 2016.
The state winners will be announced on the 16th June, with the winners progressing to the national finals.
