Cannington is set to play host to a stellar night of racing this Saturday night, with the running of six Perth Cup Heats and three Galaxy Heats.
Tornado Tears, Australia’s best staying greyhound, is the headline act on the evening, with the winner of 21 of 31 starts to line up in the first heat of the Galaxy.
Under the care of Chris Halse for his Perth campaign, Tornado Tears went close to breaking Cannington 600m track record in a solo trial last Saturday night in a performance suggesting he was on track for the Galaxy campaign.
Tornado Tears has drawn box seven for his 715m heat this Saturday and is at the rock bottom odds of $1.07, with So It Goes the only other runner in single figure odds at $7.
The second heat of the Galaxy sees the Sarah Appleton-trained Moment To Jive a solid $1.40 TABtouch favourite from box five, with West On Hawkeye ($5.50), Outshined ($5) and Rockstar Patriot ($7) drawn in box one, two and four respectively.
Despite being unplaced at his past four starts, Barcali has come up a $1.75 favourite for the third heat of the Galaxy, narrowly ahead of Reidy’s Runner ($1.85).
The pair look the clear fancies to get the two automatic qualifying spots from the heat.
The first two placegetters from each of the heats gain spots in the final, while the two fastest third placegetters also gain entry to the final.
Five of the six Perth Cup (520m) heats see short-priced favourites, headlined by overall Perth Cup favourite Orson Allen.
A winner at his last two starts, Orson Allen has been installed a $1.38 favourite with TABtouch and starts from box four, while Not Available appears to be the main danger from box one.
Dyna Patty won the Perth Cup Prelude last week, beating local star West On Augie by 6 ¼ lengths and has subsequently come up a $1.34 favourite for the second heat.
After running second at Sandown on Monday, Miss Splendamiro is the $1.70 favourite for the third heat from box two, ahead of progressive chaser Campini ($3.60).
National Sprint champion West On Augie gets his chance for Perth Cup redemption in heat four and has been installed a $1.40 favourite from box four.
Hasten Slowly is expected to progress to the final from the sixth and final heat of the night, where he’s been installed a $1.80 TABtouch favourite.
The most open of the six heats is the fifth heat, with West On Hazel ($3.90), Hecton Bale (pictured above) ($4), Slingshot Gypsy ($4.40), Quick Jagger ($4.80) and It’s A Bull ($5) all in single figure odds.
The winners of the six Perth Cup heats progress to Saturday week’s final, along with the two quickest second placegetters.
Orson Allen’s Perth Cup heat kicks off the stellar Cannington program at 7.05 on Saturday night.
