Cup has extra roar this year

THE Collie Race Club and Community TAB will join forces to raise much-needed funds for the Collie Lions Club at the annual Collie Cup on October 24.
The initiative is part of Community TAB’s new program which will see it partner with every race club in WA to raise funds for a local not-for-profit organisation.
Community TAB has agreed to match dollar for dollar all funds raised at the Collie Cup up to $2000. Racing and Wagering WA chairman Jeff Ovens said progressive partnerships such as these were an example of the strong connection race clubs have with the communities in which they operate.
“Race clubs across WA play an important role in their community contributing both economically and socially,” Mr Ovens said.
“Community TAB is proud to partner with the clubs to ensure this positive connection is highlight- ed and play our own part in giving back to the community.
“Our donation to the Collie Lions Club is one of more than 50 community organisations which will be supported as part of Community TAB’s $150 million contribution to the WA community this year.”
Collie Race Club is one of many race clubs around WA putting their hand up to raise funds for a local community group and help grow the financial and social support for their community.
Its treasurer Rosanne Pimm said the Community TAB program was a wonderful opportunity for com- munity organisations to raise much needed funds.
“It is an opportunity for race clubs to give back to the local community to thank them for the support over many years,” Ms Pimm said.
“Collie Lions Club provides support to many com- munity groups and individuals in need, such as the hospital and schools and have been a local support in Collie for years.
“The Collie Cup is a family day which includes Fashions on the Field, entertainment for children, sponsor tents and is run by volunteers.”
The Collie Lions Club will be providing catering on the day to raise funds.
The money raised will go towards various projects in Collie including juvenile health and aged-care groups.
