‘Cups King’ Peter Hall wins tribute for dedication to WA racing
Top jockey and mentor Peter Hall has won the 2021 Marjorie Charleson WA Racing Industry Award at the 28th Belmont and Western Australian Small Business Awards.
Peter was acknowledged for his dedication to the state’s racing industry as both a champion jockey and, more recently, jockey coach with Racing and Wagering Western Australia.
Since starting his career in 1983 at the age of 15, Peter’s remarkable statistics include more than 1000 wins for $22 million in prize money and three Perth Cup victories.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) CEO, Ian Edwards said he was proud to see Peter’s positive influence in the racing community continue following in his appointment as jockey coach.
In his new role, Peter mentors, instructs and motivates the next generation of jockeys.
“Peter’s impact on racing in Western Australia throughout his time as a champion jockey was incredible,” Ian said.
“He won almost every race in the state not just once but repeatedly and was both popular and respected among jockeys and apprentices.
“It is pleasing to see the positive impact he continues to have on the younger generation of jockeys.
“Peter is a deserving winner of the Marjorie Charleson WA Racing Industry Award and should be extremely proud of his achievements.”
RWWA is pleased to sponsor the award in memory of the late Marjorie Charleson, who was a media and PR trailblazer in the 1970s ‘Golden Era’ of racing and notably established the Racebreed Australia magazine.
The Belmont and Western Australian Small Business Awards were presented at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on Thursday, 28 October 2021.
