Trainer Andrew McLaren had no hesitation nominating Yunderup Dozer as the best of his two chances in the Spring Gift final (490m) at TABtouch Park Mandurah on Saturday night.
Yunderup Dozer was the fastest qualifier from last weekend’s heats after he clocked 27.40 to score by more than two lengths.
The improving black and white chaser will launch from box three and has the edge over his main rivals; Katsuro Sahara, Fun Boss and Stangafied, which all start from wider alleys.
McLaren can also see a scenario where his other runner in the race, Pastrana, may be able to assist his more fancied kennelmate.
“I like the box draw and I think ‘Dozer’ is exactly where he needs to be,” the Nambeelup trainer said.
“The two dog, Lovely Banks, crashes hard left and will hopefully clear a path for him.
“From box five Pastrana can cause the others some grief if he comes out well.”
Yunderup Dozer has saluted in three of his past four starts and he looks like developing into a fine Free To All level racedog.
“I’ve had a big opinion of him since day one,” McLaren said.
“He trialled some nice times as a pup and he’s always had ability.
“I think he’ll be one to keep an eye on.”
Saturday’s meeting will also see the running of the Distance Potential where the David Hobby-trained Jed Monelli is likely to head the market following wins in his past three races.
