WA Country Cups
Over the long weekend in March, Racing and Wagering WA’s General Manager Charlotte Mills, along with a production crew and the West Australian, headed to Esperance in a bid to promote the town and its premier race meeting.
The team travelled to Esperance in order to enhance editorial media coverage of the racing event, as well as produce a promotional video, which will feature some of the area’s most unique tourist attractions including the Cape Le Grand National Park, which is known for its stunning scenery and idyllic beaches, in particular Lucky Bay which is rated one of Australia’s best beaches with its pure white sand and clear turquoise water.
In addition to showcasing some of Esperance’s most incredible landmarks, the video also promotes the annual Esperance Cup. Racing is a large part of the Esperance Community, with the first race meeting being held at the Esperance Bay Turf Club over 100 years ago.
The racing industry in the Goldfields-Esperance region is responsible for contributing more than $28.1 million to the Western Australian economy and attracts over 57,000 racegoers each year.
RWWA via the WA Country Cups initiative aims to further promote and enhance the country racing experience by not only promoting major race events, but also showcasing tourist attributes of the region and using these celebrated racing events as a focal point.
“Promoting local tourism helps to attract visitors outside of the regions to attend major race meetings, but also encourage visitors to consider major race days as an opportunity to plan a ‘unique racing holiday’ that incorporates other local activities outside of the race meeting itself,” said General Manager Racing, Charlotte Mills.
RWWA will release the Esperance ‘Showcasing the Regions’ video in the coming months and would like to thank Country Racing Association WA President, Kevin Scott, and Esperance Bay Turf Club President, Ken Norton, for their support of this initiative.
