Micheal Ferguson is closing in on the 2016-17 Garrard’s Junior Concession Driver Challenge after driving Clever Clover to an upset win at Bunbury on Saturday.
Ferguson expertly rated Clever Clover, dashing clear at the top of the straight and defeating stablemate Mifka with Washington Square running third.
Capping off a top race for Pinjarra trainer Russell Eddy, who enjoyed a race quinella, Free To Air ran fourth.
Clever Clover, who started at $11.60 on the TAB, broke through to end his maiden status after going winless from his first 32 starts.
Favourite, Prince Of Whitby, covered plenty of territory and finished ahead of only Hideout.
19-year-old Ferguson leads the series after two wins from the opening three heats, he combined with the Barry Howlett-trained Major Stare at Pinjarra.
Ferguson can clinch the series when the final leg is staged at Gloucester Park on November 14.
Ferguson is in line to win a Garrard’s voucher, a trophy valued at $500 and the opportunity of representing WA in the NSW Rising Star Series.
