Gulberti’s Kalgoorlie Carnival Stocks Soar
Trainer Rob Gulberti’s Kalgoorlie carnival stocks were given a boost after Ihtsahymn and Roger The Roman scored impressive trial wins at Lark Hill on Monday.
Roger The Roman sprinted sharply to win his 950m heat impressively while Ihtsahymn went to the line unextended when taking out heat 19 over 1450m.
Ihtsahymn had his first hit out since winning the Darwin Cup (2000m) in August, his third successive victory since teaming up with Gulberti’s team in Broome.
Gulberti said the 2013 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) champion was on track for Saturday weeks Kalgoorlie Cup.
“I was happy with that,” Gulberti said.
“Obviously it’s been nine weeks since the Darwin Cup so we had to make sure he had residual fitness.
“We’ll see how he pulls up, but if he comes out of it okay then hopefully we can see him in the Kalgoorlie Cup.”
Roger The Roman is having his third crack at the Hannans Handicap. He ran second to Disposition in 2017 and filled the same position behind Reyjkavik last year.
The eight-year-old last raced in the Broome Sprint in August when he ran a brave fourth to Desert Thorn with 63kg.
“He was very sharp,” Gulberti said
“I’m looking forward to getting back to Kalgoorlie as he seems to like it there.
“I don’t think I can get him in better shape.”
