Fresh off breaking the state record of training 7 winners on one program, Chris Halse is hoping for more of the same at Cannington on Saturday night.
Halse had West On Tia, Circle Of Dreams, Fancy Francene, Kiss Me Linda, West On Hawkeye, Here Comes Josh all win with the icing on the cake being the victory of Premium Share in the Group 2 Brittons Formal Wear WA Derby.
“I was across in Queensland for a 21st Birthday Party and was stoked with the winners that just kept rolling in” Halse said.
“They all went well but Premium Share’s effort in the Derby really did impress me greatly.” Halse added.
“He has always been able to scoot along with a clear run and thankfully he got a safe start and was able to show what he is made of.” Halse commented.
“Nights like that don’t come around too often but they are special when they do.” Halse concluded.
This week’s feature event, the Group 2 WA Oaks again has Halse’s fingerprints all over it with four of the eight runners representing his kennel.
“All of our bitches ran well last week and the box draw has panned out nicely for them, in particular Circle Of Dreams who is just a class act.” Halse said.
The TABtouch Fixed Odds market on the Group 2 Classic sees Circle Of Dreams a white hot favourite at $1.50 in front of Grace Ali at $5.50, Kiss Me Linda and Fancy Francene at $7.50, She Will Bloom and Naughty Gunn at $16, Banjo’s Girl at $18 and Marvista at $71.
Below are the comments from all of the Trainer’s with a runner in tomorrow night’s Group 2 WA Oaks Final.
1. Circle Of Dreams (Trainer Chris Halse) : “She is an elite chaser and you would think she should improve off her first look at the track last week. She has won her only two starts off box one and it is a nice advantage to have in a Group 2 final. If she brings her A game she really should be winning.”
2. Grace Ali (Trainer Chris Halse) : “She finished her race off really well in her heat last week but her lack of early pace might see her back in the pack a bit early on. She is bred to run all day and there is no doubt she will be flooding home late but just how big a start she spots some pretty smart dogs is the concern.”
3. Kiss Me Linda (Trainer Chris Halse) : “If Circle Of Dreams is to be beaten I think Kiss Me Linda is the most likely to prevail. That was one of her better performances last week. She had to overcome some early bumping and forced through really well. She does have the capacity to run a slick early split and if she could get across the red early it would make for an interesting race.”
4. Marvista (Trainer Max Julien) : “I liked her heat effort. She wasn’t great away but her last 300 metres were encouraging. She has trialled a quick enough time to be very competitive in a race like this but just where she gets to early on is the question. It is a hot field and the red is likely to take a heap of stopping but if they happened to jam up my girl will be coming home hard. I won the Derby many years ago with Clear Havoc at 40/1 so history shows if you are in it you can win it!”
5. Fancy Francene (Trainer Chris Halse) : “She hasn’t put a foot wrong since coming across here winning the Mandurah Oaks and now her heat of the WA Oaks. She does have very good early pace but I am not sure whether she could get across Circle Of Dreams or Kiss Me Linda early and that might leave her in a sticky spot. She is very capable but has to overcome the draw.”
6. She Will Bloom (Trainer Brendan Pursell) : “I thought she might have gone a little better last week in her heat from the inside draw but it is her first trip away and she ran into a very smart bitch. Realistically she is going to need a fair bit of luck to be in the finish on Saturday. She is much better suited down near the inside and her lack of early pace is a bit of a concern in a race with some genuine early pace. I just have to hope she can avoid any early trouble and reel off a big run home.”
7. Naughty Gunn (Trainer Greg Horne) : “She couldn’t quite get over from this draw last week and from there held on ok. I would’ve loved to draw inside but the draw is what it is and I just have to hope for a bit of jamming inside early and for her to get a slingshot across them. It is a huge thrill for me to have a runner in a Group 2 Final and whatever happens I know I am going to have a lot of fun with her heading forward.”
8. Banjo’s Girl (Trainer Rod Noden) : “This girl just keeps getting better every start. She stuck to her guns really well last week and chased home hard. She is getting around with a bit of attitude at my place so clearly she knows she is going along quite well. She has a bit left up her sleeve from a time perspective and only needs a bit of luck early to be working into it. She has been finishing her races off really well so hopefully she can sit handy and get home hard.”
