Harrison Gives Power To St George In Final
David Harrison is cautiously optimistic Power Of St George can handle a test at Belmont on Saturday.
The promising three-year-old has drawn wide and carries big weight against older horses in the Sky Racing TV Provincial Championship Series Final (1400m).
Heading towards feature three-year-old races, the Raconteur Stakes (1400m) and Belmont Guineas (1600m), Harrison expects Power Of St George to perform strongly.
The Patronize gelding has won three of six starts and confirmed favouritism for Saturday’s event after he won well at Bunbury last-start, defeating Bee Quick by 1 ¾ lengths.
A firming $2.05 favourite with Tabtouch, Power Of St George, a get back runner, will start from barrier 14 in a 17-horse line-up and carries 59kg for jockey, Paul Harvey.
“He is a three-year-old up in the weights against older horses,” Harrison told the Races WA.
“I don’t know if he should be a short-priced favourite, but I guess he has earned it.
“He is a nice horse who is racing super and is on the way up.
“Saturday will be a test, so he is not past the post by any means, but he is definitely going to be a good horse.”
Another promising three-year-old from Harrison’s stable that he appreciates is Baby Blues, an entrant in the Heineken 3 Handicap (1400m).
She’s holds form as a last-start winner over a mile at Ascot, but Harrison is concerned by one of her rivals, Resortman.
The hot $1.75 fancy has only had the two starts for Bunbury trainer, Michael Lane, but has been ultra-impressive in winning both.
“He could be special and a superstar,” Harrison said.
“His wins have been very nice and you have to respect that.
“I think Resortman will be in the front half in running and Baby Blues will be up the other end.
“But the small field suits and she won’t have to be too far back.
“She is a nice filly, racing well and will be hitting the line.”
With the claim of Kristy Bennett, Baby Blues has 58kg and will jump from the second-widest gate in the field of nine.
Resortman and Kyra Yuill combine from barrier seven.
Meanwhile Harrison also says Kazkazi can break his maiden status in a soft race, the Tabtouch Westspeed Platinum Maiden (1600m).
The Alfred Nobel gelding has five placings from nine starts.
Watch Me Ney Ney lines up from a wide draw in the Gourmet Takeaway Handicap (2100m).
