The race is named after the Australian Racing Hall Of Fame champion, Kingston Town, who won the race in 1982.
The Kingston Town Classic was first run in 1976 and won by Family Of Man, trained by George Hanlon and ridden by David Brosnan.
Notable winners include Old Comrade (2000-01), Summer Beau (1996-97), Better Loosen Up (1989), Vo Rogue (1988), Kingston Town (1982) and Stormy Rex (1977).
