History Of The Towton Cup
TOWTON CUP OVERVIEW
The G.A.Towton Cup was first run in 1978 and won by Caduceus, trained by Stan Quinlivan and ridden by Graeme Webster Sr.
It is named after George Andrew Towton, a pioneer of Western Australian racing as an owner, trainer and rider.
Towton trained four WATC Derby winners and he owned and trained the winners of six Perth Cups and one Railway Stakes, all in a period of 10 years.
In 2012 Towton was inducted into the WA Racing Hall Of Fame.
The Towton Cup is a major preparatory race for the Perth Cup.
Grade: 1983-2013 Listed race.
