HorsePower Hills Participant Receives Community TAB Scholarship
Mya Nuttall from HorsePower Hills in Sawyers Valley has received one of the Community TAB Hearts and Horses scholarships.
The scholarship supports participants to access the vital therapy HorsePower Australia provides. For Mya, this means being able to continue to enjoy her time at the Hills centre building a stong bond with her horse Nick.
Mya has been with HorsePower Hills for almost four years and her mother Heather Boyd says she is becoming a more confident young lady in her personal interactions with people and horses.
“Mya has a non-specific language disorder, selective mutisam, low muscle tone and suffers from anxiety,” Heather said.
“Participating in HorsePower programs has helped Mya with her counting and letter recognition as well as communicating with others.”
“All of this has lead to Mya’s confidence growing and given her a sense of belonging which has had such a positive impact on not only her life but that of her family.”
“The warmth and acceptance by everyone and being part of the HorsePower Hills community, has been amazing and we feel so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful organisation that has changed Mya’s life.”
For over 47 years, HorsePower Australia has provided equine facilitated programs to individuals with physical, intellectual, emotional and social challenges through activities such as horseback riding, carriage driving, vaulting, hippotherapy and walking with horses.
In August 2020, Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) announced an additional $80,000 in support to HorsePower Australia through its Community TAB program. Since 2014, Community TAB has contributed $480,000 to the organisation.
RWWA Chair Jeff Ovens said the partnership with HorsePower Australia and Community TAB is very close to the heart of RWWA.
“We are honoured to be able to work with HorsePower to assist them in providing therapeutic horse-related activities to individuals like Mya,” said Mr Ovens.
“We recognise how important and unique the service HorsePower offers to the WA community is and we are proud to be an ongoing supporter.”
“On behalf of RWWA, I would like to congratulate Mya on receiving the Community TAB Hearts and Horses scholarship.”
