Information on COVIDSafe App
The Australian Government has introduced the COVIDSafe App as a valuable tool to help speed up contacting people exposed to coronavirus (COVID-19), enhancing the ability to respond rapidly to local outbreaks in order to protect the community, and not allow the virus to silently spread.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia recommends racing industry participants download the app to help ensure the safety of other participants as well as the continuation of racing in our State.
The app helps find close contacts of COVID-19 cases allowing state and territory health officials to quickly contact people who may have been exposed to COVID-19.
When you download the app from your app store, you provide your name, mobile number, and postcode and select your age range, then the system creates a unique encrypted reference code just for you.
To be effective you should have the app running as you go about your daily business and when come into contact with people. Your phone does not need to be unlocked for the app to work.
COVIDSafe recognises other devices with the app installed and notes the date, time, distance and duration of the contact.
The COVIDSafe app does not collect your location and your information and privacy is strictly protected. State and territory health authorities can access the information for contact tracing only.
When someone is diagnosed with COVID-19, state and territory health officials can seek permission to use the information from the person’s app to support their tracing, let people know they have been exposed and give advice on next steps.
At the end of the Australian COVID-19 pandemic, users will be prompted to delete the COVIDSafe app from their phone and any information contained in the storage system will also be destroyed at the end of the pandemic.
