Jordan Turner Keen To Build On Ascot Hopes
Jockey Jordan Turner is keen to cash in and make the most of the opportunities he is presented with when a new Ascot season dawns on Saturday.
Turner has a strong book of rides with Reign Of Fire, Fatale Femme and Notorious One, promising horses that can play a part in rich races at the Ascot carnival.
Reign Of Fire is unbeaten after an impressive cameo winter campaign and can give trainer Colin Webster a guide on how good he is in the Crown Perth 3YO Classic (1000m).
He stormed home from a rearwards position to win on debut by five lengths at Belmont in June and backed it up again two weeks later when he stepped up to 1300m.
Reign Of Fire meets a cracking line-up in the $100,000 sprint, a race that has attracted boom filly Clairvoyance and last start winner Gemma’s Son.
Clairvoyance, out to protect her unbeaten record of three wins, is the raging $1.65 favourite with Gemma’s Son, a winner in five of six races, at $4.60.
Reign Of Fire is rated a $7 chance and tuned up for his return with a comfortable trial victory after covering ground. The Trade Fair gelding has barrier six.
Turner said Reign Of Fire will be hitting the line hard off an expected hot speed, but hinted he could find the 1000m distance too short.
“I’m looking forward to him and he is going really well,” Turner told Tabradio.
“I think he has improved from his last preparation.
“I think it’s going to be a pretty slick run race and he will be hitting the line strong late.
“He’s definitely going to be in the finish and there is a lot more to come from him.”
A winner of the Karrakatta Plate last season, Turner can launch the opening two-year-old race in style aboard Fatale Femme.
A member of Sean and Jake Casey’s team, the Shooting To Win filly has earned $2.10 market lead after winning both her trials.
“I’ve been very impressed by her trials and I think she is a nice horse in the making,” Turner said.
“She is feeling well and with barrier five on Saturday she will be thereabouts and pretty hard to beat.”
Notorious One chases a third straight victory in the Crown Sports Bar Handicap (1500m).
Turner says the five-year-old has his issues, but is laden with talent and should overcome a wide draw.
“He has his few little quirks about him, but he does have a motor,” Turner said.
“If he can find his position and do everything right in the run he has more than enough ability to play a big part in the race.”
Turner also said Schoolhouse Rock is capable of hitting the line strongly from a wide gate in race eight.
