Mauritian apprentice jockey Brandon Louis returns to Perth next week after he was granted a three-month temporary visa.
The 23-year-old is no stranger to local riding ranks and his having his second stint in WA after honing his riding skills in a one month stay last year.
Being back in the west for another stretch will revive fond memories for Louis, it’s the place where he booted home his first winner.
The location, Kalgoorlie, the occassion, his first Australian outing and the horse Miss Merit, trained by Jayden Thomas on Good Friday.
It came three years after he began his apprentice in Maritius in 2015.
Blossoming under the tutelage of Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) jockey coaches John Claite and Jeremy Hustwitt, Louis followed up with five more wins.
He combined with Secret Minx (Albany), Armourer (Kalgoorlie), Jebel Musa (Yalgoo), I Done It (Albany) before bowing out a winner with his last ride in WA on Politics (Geraldton) last April.
Louis, who tips the scale at 53kg, will be indentured to Neville Parnham.
“It’s good to have him back,” Claite said.
“He did very well last time and gained valuable experience.
“I think he will do very well again.
“I’m sure he will be well received by trainers again.
“He loves Perth and can’t wait to get back here again.
“He is looking forward to the experience second time around.”
