Miller Predicts Bright Future For Ruthless Tycoon
Trainer Stephen Miller unearthed an exciting two-year-old with Ruthless Tycoon scoring a brilliant win on debut at Ascot on Saturday.
The Written Tycoon gelding was well fancied after two impressive trial wins and flashed huge potential to lead and run his rivals ragged.
Sent out the $2.80 favourite and ridden by Brad Parnham, Ruthless Tycoon won the Crown Perth Plate (1200m) by 2 ¾ lengths, defeating Queen’s Gift and Fatale Femme.
“He’s a natural little runner and has come through his education very good,” Miller told The Sunday Aftermath.
“Everything you put him up against he just cruises along.
“He’s just got the right attitude, you know.
“He’s a lovely little horse to train.
“He relaxes really well and is not just a jump and run sprinting type of horse.
“The more times he goes around the better he is going to be.
“Yeah, I think he’s got a pretty bright future.”
Carrying the same colours made famous by Melbourne Cup and Caulfield Cup champion, Doriemus, Ruthless Tycoon vindicated Miller’s decision to bypass a midweek encounter at Ascot on Wednesday.
“It was a little bit difficult,” Miller said.
“He drew wide on Wednesday.
“Brad (Parnham) has ridden him in trials and knows him.
“He had another ride in the race and it worked out for the better to put Brad on and race him on the Saturday.
“It worked out real good.
“He’s pulled up fine, but knows he went around.”
Miller said Ruthless Tycoon had taken giant strides after an early setback.
“As a weanling, he got a bad batch of colic,” Miller said.
“He was always small; apparently out of the mare they are pretty small horses.
“That knocked him around a fair bit and he couldn’t go to the sales.
“But he’s been really well educated and is the ideal horse to train.”
