Kissonallforcheeks’ surprise defeat in Saturday afternoon’s Group 3 Hosemasters – Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) hasn’t dented the confidence of trainer Dan Morton.
The four-year-old took up the role of leading the small field and finished sixth behind Western Empire in Saturday’s $150,000 feature.
Morton said the mare wasn’t “over-tractable” and it left jockey Clint Johnston-Porter in a tough predicament early in the race.
“She’s not an easy ride,” he told TABradio.
“Ideally she finds cover and everything works out okay.
“He was in trouble early when he didn’t get covered up.
“At that point he elected to roll forward.
“The damage was done early but it’s not all Clint’s fault.”
The stable gave some consideration to running Kissonallforcheeks in this week’s Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m), but Morton indicated he would likely start her in the R.J. Peters Stakes (1500m) on November 13.
Kissonallforcheeks’ unplaced effort was the only low point on an otherwise super day for Morton, who had Elite Street, Wilchino and Temptacion all win.
Elite Street’s win in the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1000m) enhanced his status as the TABtouch favourite for the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) later this month.
