Muscular Dystrophy WA fundraiser receives extra boost from Community TAB
‘Marquee Day for MDWA’ at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 2 November is a key fundraising event for Muscular Dystrophy WA (MDWA), and this year will again receive extra contribution from Community TAB of up to $5,000.
Amy Evans, who has muscular dystrophy, is the event ambassador and currently owns shares in six racehorses and has cheered home 18 winners.
“I’ve been involved in horse racing for a few years now and I couldn’t imagine my life without it. I love everything about it, from watching the horse you picked out as a yearling winning their first race, to getting dressed up”.
“It’s great that I’ve been able to help MDWA raise some funds doing something that I love, with these funds going towards activities such as their Young Adult Social Group which I take part in.”
MDWA CEO Hayley Lethlean said the organisation is very grateful for the extra support from Community TAB.
“Without any ongoing government funding, by partnering with us Community TAB helps MDWA to raise funds and awareness for our community and their condition and we are delighted they have chosen to support us once again at our 2019 Marquee Race Day”.
“This event is an annual fundraiser that provides much-needed funds to ensure MDWA can deliver social programs, advocacy, counselling and NDIS support as part of our community services program. It’s what we call Support For Life.”
“We are grateful for the support of Community TAB for the second year in a row, providing dollar for dollar donation support up to $5,000,” says Hayley.
Community TAB is a program of Racing and Wagering WA and has been matching fundraising at race clubs around the State for many years, with over $465,000 raised for not-for-profit organisations.
Community TAB General Manager Matthew Thomas said the positive effects of this program have been extensive for regional WA and it is great to embrace partnerships at our metro clubs like this at Ascot.
“It is great to see race clubs offer platforms for fundraising to support vital not-for-profit organisations such as MDWA, and we are very proud to play our part in matching donations for the second year in a row,” Mr Thomas said.
“Race Clubs play such a big role in communities and their reach and support is vital to supporting organisations.
“Community TAB is proud to play our own part in giving back to the community by partnering with race clubs around WA.”
