Must Win For Bull
Chicago Bull gets a golden opportunity to return to the winners list in tonight’s RSM Rotary Club Fremantle Pace (2536m) at Gloucester Park, following two unplaced efforts this campaign.
The champion pacer missed the top four for the first time first-up a fortnight ago and failed to beat a runner home last week.
The eight-year-old has drawn barrier one for tonight’s $25,000 event and trainer Gary Hall Snr said it was an important night to get a guide on just how his star is going.
“He should win,” he told The Trots WA.
“To say he was disappointing last week was an understatement.
“He’s not going like he has been.
“If he doesn’t win on Friday, I think we are in pain.”
Chicago Bull is a $1.20 favourite for the Free-For-All event with TABtouch, ahead of Vultan Tin at $6.50.
He’s built up an imposing record of 61 wins and 25 placings from 94 career starts, making the two first-up performances more surprising.
Hall Snr also has Ideal Liner (barrier five), Diego (seven) and Balcatherine (11) engaged in the event.
Ideal Liner finished second to stablemate Whozideawasthis in last week’s Free-For-All event, while Balcatherine was unlucky in eighth.
Hall Snr said he felt Balcatherine was the best of the rest of his chances.
“She never got clear last week,” he said.
“She needs a draw to lead.
“She’s a good chance of running in the money here though.”
Meanwhile, To Fast To Serious is another WA Pacing Cup winner looking to bounce back from a disappointing first-up run in the Perth Metalwork Pace (2130m).
To Fast To Serious was beaten 7m by Boom Time first-up on May 21 and has since trialled at Byford.
Driver Aldo Cortopassi said he was pleased with the trial last Sunday and expected significant improvement tonight.
“He felt a lot better at trials on Sunday,” he told TABradio.
“It was a wet track and he felt good and hit the line really well.
“I think you can put a line through the first-up run.
“He should be pretty close to being back to spot on tonight.”
Cortopassi said the five-year-old had good gate speed and could be used off the arm from barrier three.
To Fast To Serious is a $1.36 favourite with TABtouch.
Tonight’s Gloucester Park meeting gets underway at 5.24.
