New brand launch for greyhound racing
Greyhounds join standardbred and thoroughbred horses today with the launch of a new brand which brings the racing family of Western Australia together.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) proudly introduces the greyhound racing brand – The Dogs WA.
The move forms part of RWWA’s strategy to market and promote greyhound racing across the state.
Greyhound racing has long been known as the dogs and this familiar name has been adopted into the new brand, alongside the informal names embraced for harness and thoroughbred racing brands – The Trots WA and The Races WA.
General Manager Racing Charlotte Mills said The Dogs WA brand would be applied across multiple initiatives.
“‘The dogs is a phrase commonly used in greyhound racing, which makes the new brand easily recognisable to the wider community,” Charlotte said.
“The excitement of greyhound racing is enjoyed by many West Australians and this new brand will support marketing initiatives.
“Greyhound racing is responsible for contributing more than $105 million to the Western Australian economy and generates around $88million in direct spending.
“Even more importantly, 3700 people are directly involved, which is far more than a sign of the economic value the dogs bring to Western Australia. It shows the interest and significance the dogs have for many people.”
Western Australia has three greyhound racing venues, which host more than 350 race meetings each year.
Following the launch of the new brand, the RWWA greyhound Twitter handle will become The Dogs WA.
