Oscar On Target For Anniversary
In form chaser Dyna Oscar is primed for a forward showing in the Anniversary Cup final (520m) at Cannington on Saturday according to kennel foreman Graham Crudeli.
The red-hot brindle will be joined by kennelmate Dyna Orenthal in the race but is clearly the standout of the two chasers for Team Crudeli.
Dyna Oscar has rarely been out of the money for the Crudeli’s since arriving in their kennels in the middle of June.
He’s won his past three starts, five of his past seven and has only missed a podium finish once from his last 13 attempts.
Dyna Oscar has picked up the Canning Show Trophy along the way and given his ominous display during his heat last weekend he will be hard to deny his second piece of silverware.
In what was his most complete performance to date Dyna Oscar, better known for his powerful finishes, bustled into the early lead and then kicked away to score by nearly six lengths in a personal best time of 29.75.
In the final Dyna Oscar will encounter a quality field including the quick launching Jade’s Blade, Perth Cup finalist Kiss Me Linda and Spring Gift winner Dandalup Casper.
Crudeli has no concerns that Dyna Oscar is equal to the task despite a wide draw.
“He was huge last week,” Crudeli said. “He jumped the best he’s ever done.
“He’s racing with heaps of confidence. He’s flying, absolutely flying.
“Box six won’t worry him. He can win it from anywhere.
“He’s a smart dog and he’s a strong dog. He doesn’t need to lead to win it.
“As long as he steps and he sits up with the first three he’ll be right in it.
120 race veteran Dyna Orenthal, a winner two starts back over 600m, comes into the final after running third behind Jerky Boy in his heat.
The old stager has found some late career form and Crudeli believes from the pole his greyhound should feature in the novelties.
“He’s an older dog but he’s racing like he’s young again,” Crudeli said. “He’s got a new lease on life.
“He’s got the box he needs. I don’t think he’s quick enough to win but he’s a good chance for the minors.”
The Anniversary Cup is scheduled for Race 5 (8.17pm) at Cannington on Saturday.
